I have worked at a number of gyms and regularly see people doing cardio in the quest for fat loss! That’s all they do. All you will get from this (without resistance training) is looking the same just a smaller version (Skinny fat).

No Successful body transformation is complete without adding in sufficient resistance training.
So what is resistance training ?

The Benefits of weight training are numerous and everyone, young and old, should be doing some form of weight training at least 2-3 x per week.

Muscle Burns Fat.

The more muscle we have…the more calories we burn at rest! So adding in a good muscle-building plan will increase our daily expenditure, With a good nutrition and training program that means we get to eat more food while still losing body fat!

Builds bone density and fights Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition of mineral loss which can lead to fractures, this is particular in women but men can also get it. Weight training can help to prevent this and build bone density even in the elderly.

Can Raise metabolic rate.

A decent weight training plan can significantly raise your metabolic rate for hours after you have trained meaning more calories being burnt through the day.

Will make you stronger and fitter.

This will make every day life a lot easier, no more struggling with bags, getting tired picking up the kids, running around and playing will be a lot easier. This benefit alone should be a massive incentive. Who wouldn’t want to be able to play with kids/grand kids without getting constantly tired.

You will move around with more ease and less falls in the elderly.

This comes down to being more body aware and recruiting the correct muscle fibres while using correct movement patterns.

It will make you better at sport.

Better performance, speed, agility and power.

Makes you healthier.

Weights will make your heart healthier, can lower blood pressure, controls blood sugar and reduces your chances of diabetes.

Good for the mind.

Exercise makes us feel happy and can help fight depression while making us mentally strong.

Women it won’t make you bulky!

Weight training won’t make women look bulky,

Weight training will make you look and feel better (younger)

As i said earlier you can pound that treadmill as much as you want but if you are not adding in resistance training you are doing yourself and your body a massive disservice!
